Bentley made £333 million in the first six months of 2022. In the first six months of this year, it made about £40 million. That’s 88% of its profit gone in four years, from the company that won Le Mans, carried the Queen at her Golden Jubilee and has built cars in Crewe for 80 years.
Now Bentley has revealed the car that’s supposed to save it: the Torcal, its first ever electric car and the most powerful Bentley ever built. It was promised for 2025 and won’t reach customers until summer 2027. Underneath, it shares its platform and battery with a Porsche that costs less than half as much.
In this video we cover how Bentley went from its best year ever to cutting 275 jobs at Crewe. We look at the engines it killed off, China’s new luxury car tax, the American tariffs that stopped exports, a home market that nearly halved and an electric plan rewritten again and again. Then there’s the Lamborghini figure that shows exactly how far Bentley has fallen, and why the man who wrote the plan is someone you’ve already met on this channel.
Would you buy an electric Bentley, or is it just a very expensive Porsche with nicer seats? Let me know in the comments.
