New dentures, a sore tooth, or a jaw that tires halfway through a meal shouldn't mean living on canned soup and toast. These 10 soft dinners pass one simple test: if you can cut it with the side of a fork, you can chew it. None of them are baby food, and none need a blender. The secret is moisture, gentle heat and a little patience.
In this video:
1. Lemon Butter Baked Cod
2. Swiss Steak
3. Chicken and Dumplings
4. Creamy Stovetop Mac and Cheese
5. Swedish Meatballs in Sour Cream Gravy
6. Soft Salmon Cakes
7. Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls
8. Split Pea Soup with Ham
9. Slow Cooker Pot Roast (the toughest cut becomes the softest dinner)
10. Loaf Pan Lasagna
Each recipe makes about four servings: one for tonight, and three for the freezer. Freeze each serving flat in its own bag. Flat bags stack like books and thaw in a bowl of cold water in about half an hour.
Every recipe includes substitute tips, so you can make it with what's already in your kitchen.
Please note: these are soft everyday dinners, not a medical diet. If a doctor or speech therapist has given you a special texture to follow for swallowing, stay with their advice.
