Steyr at ten o'clock on a Friday night: the old town almost to ourselves, lamplight on the cobbles, and the castle glowing above the river. Our second night walk. It starts below the Schlosspark at the Werndl monument, passes the Gothic parish church and goes under the old vaults into the lanes of the old town. The Stadtplatz, one of the finest Renaissance squares in Austria, is nearly empty at this hour, only a few people and the shop windows lit. The walk continues past the floodlit walls of Schloss Lamberg, crosses the river with the church towers ahead, and ends on the far bank looking back at the castle and its reflection in the water. No commentary. No music. Just footsteps on cobblestones, a few voices from the bars, and the river. Everything you see and hear is real. Unser zweiter Nachtspaziergang. Vom Schlosspark am Werndl-Denkmal vorbei, an der gotischen Stadtpfarrkirche entlang und unter den alten Gewölben hindurch in die Gassen der Altstadt. Der Stadtplatz ist um diese Zeit fast leer, nur ein paar Leute und die beleuchteten Schaufenster. Weiter an den angestrahlten Mauern von Schloss Lamberg vorbei, über die Brücke mit den Kirchtürmen voraus, und am anderen Ufer mit Blick zurück auf das Schloss und sein Spiegelbild im Wasser.
