William Barnes grew up in an Air Force family, served in the Reserves as a flight medic, and spent eleven years in aircraft maintenance before a short and unhappy stint in human resources pushed him out of government work. He ran a residential roofing franchise as general manager, sold roofing materials at Gulf Eagle Supply, and now runs commercial and industrial service for Baker Roofing's new branch in Macon, Georgia. In this episode William breaks down the franchise math that most residential operators never see clearly: five roofs a month to keep the doors open, ten to twelve to actually make a profit. He also explains where margin really disappears, and why a subcontractor who does not understand waste factor will quietly eat the number you sold. On the commercial side he talks about building a new territory from one truck, working the local chambers for organic referrals, and the single word on his whiteboard that gets him through cold calling.
