Our Oregon Trail journey continues as we leave Fort Hall behind and begin the long push toward Fort Boise. We're more than halfway to Oregon and still in remarkably good shape, but this stretch of the trail starts putting considerably more pressure on both the party and our supplies. Hunting ammunition is running low, fatigue and illness are becoming more common, wagon space remains a constant problem, and a dust storm even costs us one of our oxen.
Along the way, we help several struggling travelers, continue searching for the missing dragoons, repeatedly encounter a mysterious bounty hunter looking for some target of his own, and face one of our most dangerous river crossings yet at the Snake River. After a nighttime encounter leaves Pearl injured and James becomes sick just eight miles from our destination, we finally limp into Fort Boise with the entire original party still alive. Now there's only one major phase left between us and Oregon City.
Key points:
Leaving Fort Hall and heading toward Fort Boise
Winning a couple of shooting contests against a mysterious bounty hunter
Hunting, fishing, trading, and fighting the eternal battle with wagon space
Helping a woman attempting to make the dangerous journey back east
Providing medicine to a sick child we met earlier on the trail
Finding Devil's Club to help Gideon's declining health
Reaching the Snake River and learning about the dangerous crossings ahead
Losing an ox during another brutal dust storm
Rescuing another accident-prone member of the missing dragoons
Crossing the Snake River despite an extreme current
Pearl accidentally leading us off the trail while sleepwalking
A nighttime intruder injuring Pearl and raiding the wagon
James becoming sick only a few miles from Fort Boise
Finally reaching Fort Boise and restocking for the last major phase of the journey
Preparing for the Blue Mountains, The Dalles, the Columbia River, and ultimately Oregon City
