Welcome to a snowy Thursday night in Spruce Grove! Grab a coffee and settle in, because tonight I finally show you the card my class ladies kept asking about: the triple-tier card that slides out. I combined directions from two sources, including a wonderful visual from Tammy White, and I will share her cutting visual in Tuesday's newsletter for my email subscribers. This card looks fancy, but it is really just scoring, cutting two slots in 2 layers, and two little sliding strips. It fits in a regular envelope (though it is thick, so mailing takes a little care), and it works for Halloween, Christmas, birthdays, and even photos. Cathy said it looks like a birthday cake, and I think she is right. What You Will Learn: How to score and cut the base and middle tiers for a triple-tier card How to cut the slots that lets the base and middle tier slide How the half-inch sliding strips work, and why you fold them loosely How to place the top layer flush to the top so the tiers slide smoothly The packing tape trick for shiny die-cut letters How to add a ribbon pull tab with the dental floss holder trick Full tutorial with Tammy White's cutting visual is in my Tuesday newsletter Products and Supplies Featured: Cardstock, scoreboard, trimmer, and bone folder Seal Plus for the sliding strip ends (Tear & Tape works too) Liquid glue for the designer paper layers Packing tape for the shiny die-cut letters Dental floss holder for threading the ribbon pull tab, plus a short piece of ribbon Designer paper of your choice (a note: the Spooktacular paper I used on my samples is now sold out, so use any pretty paper you have on hand) Why You Will Love This Project: It slides! There is something delightful about a card that moves when you pull the ribbon, and the stacked tiers look impressive while the steps stay simple. Keep embellishments light; there is not much room on a sliding card, but the movement does the talking. Make it spooky, make it Christmassy, make it a birthday cake, or fill the tiers with photos. Weekly Draw: Congratulations to Maggie, winner of last week's treat box! The finished box is too thick to mail as is, so I will make one you can put together yourself, Maggie, and flatten it for mailing. Everyone who comments, whether on the live now or during the week on the YouTube recording, goes into the draw for this week's project, the triple-tier card itself. Comment away! Hot foil fans, local friends: I have quite a pile of hot foil pieces and would love to share an afternoon of hot foiling play with you. Bonnie, I am coming to help you, as promised.
