Fantastic Experience at the Great Central Railway Autumn Steam Gala | 04.10.2026

My two uncles and I took a trip to the Great Central Railway for their autumn steam gala, where tender locomotives were surprisingly scarce. However, it did not disappoint - little engines can do BIG things! There's was double-headers, goods demonstrations and expresses throughout the afternoon. We also saw some early morning action in the yard and went on a goods experienced pulled by their resident standard 5MT 73156 and the lost engine Newstead. But the highlight of the day was hearing Newstead and Jinty 16440 haul a passenger service up the incline out of Leicester North - look out for the end for the photo album as well to see the true atmosphere and spirit the GCR has. Enjoy!
