EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 14 | Whalers Get a Close Win at Home vs MTL

After their first loss of the season in a a stumbling effort against the Penguins in Pittsburgh the Whalers were at home to face the Montreal Canadiens in Game 14. Hartford brought a better game this night getting a lot more chance than Montreal in the 1st period. Patrick Roy was hard to be but Hartford did manage one goal. With about eleven minutes left Geoff Sanderson stuffed the puck in tight to the post blocker-side past Patrick Roy off a short pass from Andrew Cassels in front. Montreal could not respond and that was all the Whalers could get before the horn. At the 1st intermission Hartford was up 1-0 with the shots at HTF 25 and MTL 9. The 2nd period was another goaltending clinic by Patrick Roy as he stopped all 18 shots the Whalers sent his way. Sean Burke only faced 3 shots and stopped them as well. At the 2nd break it was still 1-0 for Hartford with the shots at HTF 43 and MTL 12. Hartford kept up the pressure in the 3rd period and managed to score again with five minutes to go. Geoff Sanderson beat Patrick Roy to the blocker-side again with a boomer of a shot from his wing off a pass from the edge of the far circle at the hashes by Andrew Cassels. That was it for both teams. The Whalers won 2-0 with Patrick Roy stopping 61 of 63 shots and Sean Burke stopping all of the 19 that Montreal sent his way. Enjoy!
