EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 23 | Whalers Get Another Close Shave vs TBL

The Whalers were at home again for Game 23 with the Tampa Bay Lightning in town. The Whalers were hoping that "the algorithm" wouldn't bite too harshly again during a stretch of tough games lately. The 1st period was a very stingy stalemate with neither team getting a large amount of chances. Tampa Bay played their usual game of pockety-pick and break-a-da-flow. At the 1st intermission it was 0-0 with the shots at HTF 10 and TBL 6. The 2nd period was more of the same but the Whalers managed to get a 1-0 with just under four minutes left when Steven Rice showed a fine nose for the net and had a tap-in past Daren Puppa after a great pass from down low by Adam Burt. Shots at the 2nd intermission were HTF 30 and TBL 11. The 3rd period started with Hartford extending their lead in the first minute of the period. Geoff Sanderson beat Daren Puppa glove-side with a blind backhander from well out in the slot off a pass from Andrew Cassels with Sean Burke getting the secondary assist just 38 seconds into the period. After that Daren Puppa was a total wall as was Sean Burke. The game ended with Hartford winning 2-0. Sean Burke stopped all 24 shots that Tampa sent his way for another well-earned shut-out and Daren Puppa had a great night with a 0.961 save %. Enjoy!
