Deep in Brazil’s Amazon forests lives a mysterious parrot — the Vulturine Parrot (*Pyrilia vulturina*). At about 23 cm long and 120 g, this bird can be difficult to spot. Adults have a green body, yellow collar and bare, dark head. Young birds have a feathered green head before developing the distinctive adult appearance. Its life is closely tied to the rainforest canopy. It feeds mainly on fruits, berries and seeds, especially large, soft fruits. Its unusual bare head may help prevent fruit pulp from matting its feathers. Rather than hunting animals, it searches fruiting trees quietly through dense foliage. Outside breeding season, groups of up to 10 birds may travel together, while pairs are more typical during breeding. First reproduction has been estimated at about 1.8 years. One major mystery remains: scientists still lack reliable data on clutch size, incubation and fledging. From a tiny juvenile to an adult fruit specialist. Watch until the end to discover why this Amazon parrot’s strange bald head may be its greatest survival adaptation! Subscribe for more wildlife stories. #VulturineParrot #AmazonBirds #Wildlife
