Nickelodeon's Wienerville was a cardboard puppet city where Marc Wiener played most of the population by putting his real head above tiny bodies. Audience members entered the Weinerizer, competed for a Golden Hot Dog, and got slimed. If that sounds like a television memory your brain assembled during a fever, this full-show deep dive has receipts. We trace Weinerville from Marc Wiener's street-performance and nightclub act to Saturday Night Live, The Jim Henson Hour, an adult-comedy pilot called That's Not Fair that tested too young, and its unlikely home at Nickelodeon Studios in Universal Studios Florida. We also explain how theme-park visitors became audiences and contestants, how celebrities could be recruited while touring the studio, and why a Weinerville taping marked Nickelodeon Studios' one-thousandth live-action episode. Then we visit Boney, Dottie, Socko, Zip, Ray Abruzzo, Scott Fellows, the thirteen-dollar-and-fifty-cent running gag, and the show's spectacularly strange Chanukah special. That special included potato-pancake aliens, Buster Poindexter, Marc Summers, Laura Kightlinger, WWF champion Diesel during filming, fake Vermont snow, and music from the B-Fifty-Twos, Elastica, and Gloria Estefan. Finally, we examine why Weinerville ended, why its episode count is disputed, how inserted Popeye, Mister Magoo, Betty Boop, and other classic cartoons complicated its afterlife, which reruns contained replacement shorts, and why so much of the series remains scattered across fan uploads and archives instead of an official streaming home.
