Following the straight line of a manmade canal, a 19th‑century waterway linking two rivers. The late afternoon sun casts long amber and gold shadows across the reedbeds, the air still and warm, the only sounds the swish of reeds and the distant rumble of a train along the embankment. Two towering electricity pylons stride across the marsh, their latticework stark against the sky — industrial sentinels that carry power lines over the two parallel-wide river waters. A boat passes.
