In the peroxide video I told you one thing and I did not tell you why: never mix it with vinegar in the same basin. Half of you asked. Tonight you get the why, and you get the vinegar, because my mother used the jug on our feet long before she ever bought the brown bottle.
📖 My mother's whole way of running a house is written down in one book, The Old Mexican Way: https://oldmexicanway.com
Fill a basin with warm water, one part plain white vinegar to four parts water, feet in, fifteen minutes. And watch. Nothing happens. No fizz. That is the point. Peroxide attacks. Vinegar changes the ground: it puts the acid back on your skin, and the fungus and the smell bacteria cannot live on acid. Slower, gentler, three dollars a gallon.
And before anybody feels bad about their feet: it is not because you are dirty and it is not because you are lazy. Feet are the part of the body we are told to hide.
1. The soak: one to four, warm, fifteen to twenty minutes, then dry between every toe. The twenty-eight dollar foot soak is vinegar with lavender in it
2. The smell and pie de atleta: the smell goes in days, the peeling takes weeks, and only the mild ones. Deep or bleeding is the pharmacy cream, and that is honest work
3. The thick yellow nail: the slow one. A nail grows out in a year. It helps, it is not a cure. Painful, lifting or spreading is the doctor
4. The calluses and la lima: acid softens skin the way it softens meat. File, never a razor, never a blade
5. The shoes, the truth twice: the fungus lives in the insole. One-to-one vinegar spray, sun, once a week. The vinegar smell leaves when it dries
6. The socks: half a cup in the rinse, the laundry law, one line
WHY NEVER THE TWO IN ONE BASIN: vinegar and peroxide together make peracetic acid, the thing hospitals sterilize with, in gloves, with ventilation. It burns skin and lungs. One or the other. Different nights. Rinse the basin between.
THE RULES: never on an open crack. Never daily, acid dries skin, two or three times a week. Always the cream after. And if you have diabetes, numb feet, or poor circulation, no foot soak in anything without your doctor saying yes first. I am not a doctor. I am a mother with a basin.
