Metal Opera: Siegfried - The Dragon's Bane

Legendary hero of Germanic myth and protagonist of the Nibelungenlied. After slaying the dragon Fafnir and winning the cursed Rhine gold, his unmatched strength and tragic vulnerability became the ultimate symbol of epic destiny and betrayal. -------- Lyrics: Son of kings, of ancient line, In Siegfried’s blood the omens shine. Balmung forged, in fire’s breath, A hero bound to life and death. Through shadowed woods and mountain deep, The dragon woke from endless sleep. His fiery breath consumed the sky, Where steel met scale and sparks did fly. Through smoke and flame the battle thundered, By Balmung’s edge the beast was sundered. Scales lay broken, the night was torn, And echoes died as dawn was born. Fafnir falls, to rise no more. Bathed in crimson, fate’s behest, His skin defied each mortal test. Yet one green leaf upon his chest, A silent curse, by fate addressed. The hoard of Nibelung, cursed and cold, A weight of shadow, a crown of gold. Its gleaming light, a fatal snare, A wealth that none may ever bear. In Kriemhild’s eyes, a gentle light, A vow of love, serene and bright. Yet Hagen’s heart, in silence grim, Prepared the blade that ended him. A feast of brothers, wine and song, Yet treachery within grew strong. The dagger struck the fated place, The leaf, the wound, death’s dark embrace. Not on the field, nor clash of steel, But in deceit the end was sealed. The dragon’s bane, the hoard, the crown, By Hagen’s hand the king fell down. Raise the sword, though he is gone, His saga carved in endless song. The realm shall fall, the end draws near, For Siegfried’s death is all they fear. The Rhine runs red, the halls shall burn, For Kriemhild’s wrath will not attorn. No oath, no bond, no crown remains, The blood of kingdoms floods the plains. --------- If the story of the Dragon's Bane inspired you, join the Phalanx.
