#clayshooting #sportingclays #shootingtips You already know to watch the target. You've been told it a hundred times. You do it on every single shot. And it isn't working. Here's why. Watching the target and focusing on the target are two completely different things, and only one of them gives your brain enough information to put the shot in the right place. Right now, when a clay comes out of the trap, you are almost certainly seeing an orange shape. Not an edge. Not the rings on its face. A shape. And an orange shape moving across a grey sky is not enough for your eyes to lock on to — which is why your barrel keeps creeping back into your attention, and why the lead you need seems to change on a target you've shot a hundred times. That's the real mechanism behind barrel awareness, and it isn't a discipline problem. Nobody chooses to look at their gun. Your eye went looking for something to hold, found nothing specific on the target, and settled on the only thing available — the biggest, nearest, highest contrast object in your field of view. The change is one sentence long, it costs nothing, and you can make it on your next stand. 🎯 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS VIDEO 1. Why tracking and hard focus are two different things 2. Why "look at the target" is impossible as an instruction 3. The one change — and why the leading edge is the point to use 4. The blur test, so you know if it's actually happening 5. Why this gets measurably harder after fifty 6. Two ways to practise it without a gun or a single clay ⏱️ CHAPTERS 💬 TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS Run the blur test on your next stand and be honest about it. Did you see orange, or did you see an edge? Answer in the first second after the shot, before you have time to construct anything. And if you can genuinely see the ridges on a clay's face, say so — that's rarer than it should be. 👉 Next week: what every miss is telling you, and why four different misses have four completely different causes. 🔔 Subscribe to Full Choke for clay shooting breakdowns every week. #clayshooting #sportingclays #shotgunking #shootingtips #HardFocus #claypigeonshooting #ShootingOver50 #Skeet #TrapShooting #eyefocus
