It's Halloween, 4:30 p.m., in Lebanon, Kansas, the middle of the lower 48. You breathe in to blow out a match, and you can't stop: every 2.4 seconds, the air you've breathed in doubles.
The numbers are real:
• One calm breath is about half a liter: 0.58 g of Kansas air
• Air can't flow into an opening faster than sound. Through your mouth that caps out at about 0.11 kg/s (97 L/s), with the air at your lips at −33 °C (−28 °F)
• Windows usually shatter at 0.5–1 psi (NOAA). Your kitchen's go at 0.5 psi (3.5 kPa)
• A hot-air balloon holds about 77,000 ft³ of air, the Goodyear blimp about 297,500 ft³, the Hindenburg 7.06 million ft³ (200,000 m³)
• Every square meter of Earth carries about 10 tonnes of air (14.7 psi). All of it weighs about 5.15 quadrillion tonnes
• Venus's air weighs about 94 times Earth's. On Halloween 2026 its light takes 2 min 19 s to reach us
• Sirius B is a white dwarf as heavy as the Sun and smaller than Earth: a teaspoon of it weighs about 15 tons
• On average, Betelgeuse is millions of times thinner than the air you breathe
• Only about 6% of ordinary matter is in stars. Most of it is thin gas between the galaxies, finally weighed with fast radio bursts in 2025
• Each breath you take holds about one molecule of Julius Caesar's last breath (Sam Kean, "Caesar's Last Breath")
What's not real:
• The premise. Where the air goes is left unexplained on purpose: in the video it adds no weight and no pull. (If it stayed inside you, you'd become a black hole at about 4:02.)
• From 0:29.6 the air would have to enter your mouth faster than sound, which it can't (said on screen).
• You survive the wind, the vacuum and the cold, and your house keeps standing long after real wind would have torn it apart (labelled on screen).
• The balloon, blimp, Hindenburg, VAB and Moon are holograms for size. The shape of the hole in the sky and the way the Sun shrinks are our guesses.
• From 3:15 the counter is ON PAPER: pulling in Venus's air in 16 seconds means reaching two light-minutes away faster than light. From there on it's only the mass math, and the trip is a diagram (dark matter and the cosmic web are illustrations, not to scale). Jupiter and Saturn are shown going a few seconds after the Sun; on paper they go with it.
• The HUD is computed, not typed: mass = 0.58 g × 2^((t − 7 s) / 2.4 s); choked (Mach 1) flow through a 5 cm² mouth; wind at distance r = inflow / (ρ · 2πr²); the hole's area = mass ÷ 10,094 kg per m². How far the pull reaches comes from the matter around us: near the Sun (McKee 2015), the Milky Way (~65 billion Suns), the Local Group, then the mean density of ordinary matter (Planck 2018).
• Real data: the Sun and Venus for 4:30 p.m. CDT, Oct 31, 2026 (NASA JPL Horizons), Lebanon's sunset (NOAA), coastlines (Natural Earth).
