Every 3 seconds, every one of you splits in two. It's 7:30 on a Monday morning in Chicago, you're brushing your teeth — and you can't stop.
The numbers are real:
• Above about 5 people per square meter, a crowd turns dangerous
• Soldier Field holds 63,500. Michigan Stadium seats 107,601
• Rod Stewart, Copacabana 1994: at least 3.5 million people, the biggest concert crowd on record (Guinness)
• Chicago has about 2.7 million people, the US about 343 million, Earth more than 8.2 billion
• About 117 billion humans have ever been born (PRB)
• The Great Pyramid weighs about 6 million tonnes; all of Earth's air about 5 quadrillion
• Earth has about 3 trillion trees and about 20 quadrillion ants
• A ball of people (591 kg/m³, lighter than water) becomes a black hole at a radius of 3.5 AU: about Betelgeuse's size, 180 million Suns
• Voyager 1 has been flying for 49 years and is almost one light-day away
• You began as one cell. About 41 doublings make a baby, about 45 make you
What's not real:
• The premise. Nothing splits every 3 seconds. A real pile this tall would crush the people at the bottom, and nobody can breathe at the top (both are said on screen).
• The pile's shape is our guess: about 300,000 of you flood the streets first, then the rest pile into a dome around the original, packed 60% people and 40% gaps.
• Why don't you collapse? For something this dense, gravity needs about 46 minutes to pull it in. You double every 3 seconds, so in the video gravity never catches up. That's a simplification, not a prediction.
• From 5:05 the edge of you would have to move faster than light. Nothing can. From there on the counter is marked ON PAPER and the ball is drawn as a diagram: it's only the doubling math.
• Illustrations, labelled on screen: the "ghost" buildings and Everest (size comparisons), the Oort Cloud, and the dividing cells at the end (real cells don't split in step). The Sun is raised to 4° (really under 2° at 7:30) so the city gets light, and the Moon is drawn 2.9× its real size.
• The HUD is computed, not typed: N = 2^((t − 3 s) / 3 s); 70 kg (154 lb) per you; pile density 591 kg/m³; dome height from V = (2/3)πh³; top speed = height × ln 2 / 9 s; black hole once R = √(3c² / 8πGρ); horizon = 2GM/c². Real data: Sun, Moon, planets and Voyager 1 for 7:30 a.m. CDT, Oct 26, 2026 (NASA JPL Horizons), coastlines (Natural Earth), Big Dipper distances (Hipparcos).
