The Band additionally played for the monarch's departure, in a change from previous ceremonies. Inside the Senedd, the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh's Fanfare Team played for the arrival of the First Minister of Wales at 09:46 and for the arrival of the monarch at 22:56. If you look carefully through the glass, you can see the fanfare team in this video. The Guard of Honour was provided by the Royal Naval Ceremonial Guard, comprising of sailors drawn from across the Royal Navy. In a rare public appearance, the Royal Naval King's Colour, presented to the Royal Navy in 2023, was paraded in Wales for the first time. This can be most notably seen at 04:30 in this video. British Army reservists provided street liners from 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh and 157 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps to line the ceremonial route. 104 Regiment Royal Artillery fired the 21 Gun Salute to signify the Sovereign's arrival in Wales. Also on parade were the Welsh Regimental Mascots, LCpl Jones, the Welsh Mountain Pony from 1st the Queen's Dragoon Guards (Welsh Cavalry); and LCpl Shenkin IV, the Kashmiri Goat from 3rd Battalion Royal Welsh. The State Opening of The Senedd takes place every five years in Cardiff Bay to officially open each session of the Welsh parliament. This year was significant, as after recent 2026 elections, the number of elected assembly members grew from 60 to 96. Troops marched from the rear of the Wales Millennium Centre down to the Senedd building on the water front in Cardiff Bay. Despite protesters, the event went well and the Band played exceedingly well to the delight of many supporters, locals and school children!
