In the clear, bright light of midday, a forest path leads between large old trees to a sunlit lake. Thick trunks line both sides, their mottled grey-green and brown bark patched with moss and golden where the sunlight touches it. Branches bend inward and meet over the path, forming a tunnel beneath a dense canopy of broad, lobed leaves. Broad shafts of sunlight slant down through the leaves from the upper left and upper right. The path of packed earth, pale gold in the sunlight, runs straight from the foreground to the sandy water’s edge. Flat grey stones are set into it here and there, among patches of green moss and dappled leaf shadows. Through the arch at the far end, calm blue water reflects the wooded far shore and the sky. Rounded trees mingle with dark pointed trees on the low rise across the lake, pale blue with distance. A few small white clouds sit in the clear blue sky above them. On the right, a low bridge of grey stone crosses the stream in a single round arch. Moss covers its top and sides, and ferns and grass grow at either end. Clear blue-green water flows beneath it toward the lower right, with sunlight reflected on small ripples between rounded, moss-covered boulders. At the left edge of the path, to Everglow’s left and a little ahead of her, a weathered grey standing stone has a rounded top and patches of moss. An eight-pointed star inside a circle is carved into its upper face. Tall foxgloves carry rows of pink and magenta bells, with a large group on the left and more along the right edge, beside the bridge and toward the lake. Bluebells with nodding blue-violet flowers grow on both sides of the path, around the stone and beside the stream. Ferns border the path and gather around rocks dappled with sunlight. There is no need to hurry. For a little while, it is enough to be here. A little left of centre, Everglow walks along the middle of the path toward the lake, seen from behind. She is mid-step in brown laced boots, her left heel lifted behind her and the sole showing. Her long silver-white hair falls to the middle of her back, with a thin braid circling her head like a crown. Her long dark green outer garment reaches below her knees, its hem spreading behind her. Gold-patterned embroidered bands trim the hem and the ends of the wide short sleeves, with long white sleeves beneath. Her lute is slung on her back, its round body at the middle of her back and its neck rising diagonally above her left shoulder. Its wood is warm yellow-brown. Her right arm hangs at her side, her hand near the brown leather pouch at her right hip, with a brown cuff at the end of her white sleeve. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, The sentence presents peace as something that comes to us. Its arrival has a gentle pace of its own, and we can make room to receive it. There is quiet reassurance in allowing that arrival to unfold. Reading and study can share in this unhurried welcome. You can spend time with a passage, pause over an idea, and let your attention settle. Peace may find a place among these ordinary moments. This music offers company as you give quiet some room. A spacious pace has room for thought and room for a pause. You may let peace take its own time. This is the fifth line of W. B. Yeats’s poem "The Lake Isle of Innisfree", the first line of its second stanza, on page 121 of The Countess Kathleen and Various Legends and Lyrics (1892). The complete poem, three stanzas of four lines, stands on that one page. The on-screen caption shows the second half of this line. The English text is Yeats’s own. Our text was checked against a scan of the 1892 first edition (Cameo Series), whose title page reads 'CAMEO SERIES'. Quotation: W. B.
