I had zero desire to run a 5K. That was never the goal. The goal was just to walk a little more than I did the day before.
I started at 5,000 steps and added 1,000 every month. By the time I hit 10,000 daily steps I checked my Apple Watch on the treadmill and it said I was walking 3 miles. A 5K is 3.1. I had accidentally conditioned myself to finish a race I never signed up for.
That's the thing about incremental progress, it doesn't feel like training. It just feels like today. And then one day today adds up to something you didn't think you were capable of.
The same formula behind this is behind everything else I'm building. You don't need a dramatic starting line. You just need to be willing to add one more step than yesterday.
