On this trip, I traveled to the Czech Republic to explore the Broumov region, specifically the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks area, one of the most interesting hiking destinations in the country.
I stayed in the small village of Jívka, about 7 km from Teplice Rocks. My accommodation cost €60 for three nights, which is €20 (around $23) per night. For that price, I was really surprised by how good it was. It was probably one of the best places I've ever stayed. The accommodation was right next to a huge meadow with a forest behind it, but it was still located in the village.
When I travel solo, I usually stay in hostels because they're cheaper. However, I couldn't find any hostels in this area, which I didn't mind at all this time.
The next morning, I headed to Teplice Rocks (Teplické skály), a beautiful natural area in the Czech Republic known for its tall sandstone rock formations, narrow passages, forest trails, and unusual landscapes.
I parked right next to the entrance, and because I arrived relatively early, there weren't many people around.
After a few minutes of hiking, I reached a staircase leading to the ruins of Střmen Castle. However, when I got to the top, I couldn't see any remains of the castle, or at least I didn't notice them.
After coming back down, I continued along the main hiking trail for a while before turning left. That was the exact moment I accidentally left the main trail, although this part isn't shown in the video.
Later, I reached another intersection with two different paths. Luckily, I chose the better direction because, as I later discovered on the map, the other trail could have taken me even farther away from the area.
After about an hour of walking, I met two hikers who told me I was going completely the wrong way. They explained that I was no longer on the main Teplice Rocks hiking circuit, but if I continued along this trail, I should eventually reach the town of Teplice nad Metují, where I could follow the road back to my parking lot.
So I decided to keep going.
Along the way, I walked through narrow rocky passages and reached the Locomotiva viewpoint, which offered beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
After several more kilometers of hiking through the forest, I eventually reached a ski resort where I could finally see the village below. From there, I continued downhill until I reached the road leading back to my car.
This hike turned into a completely unexpected adventure. Even though I got lost and ended up far from the main tourist trail, I'm really glad I took that wrong turn because it turned out to be one of the most interesting parts of my trip.
If you're planning to visit the Czech Republic and looking for places to explore beyond Prague, the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks area is definitely worth considering, especially if you like hiking, forests, rock formations, and outdoor adventures.
