s the Avalanche Lake Trail worth hiking in Glacier National Park? Join us as we follow the Trail of the Cedars to Avalanche Gorge and Avalanche Lake—then continue beyond the busiest lakefront area to see what many visitors miss. This popular hike on the west side of Glacier National Park passes through an old-growth forest before reaching Avalanche Lake and its mountain-and-waterfall scenery. We share the trail experience, the lakefront payoff and what we found by exploring farther along the shore. The National Park Service currently lists the Avalanche Lake portion as: • 2.3 miles one way • 741 feet of elevation gain • A steady forest climb to an alpine lake and waterfalls Distances can vary depending on how much of the Trail of the Cedars you walk and whether you explore farther along Avalanche Lake.
