I had already gone through university in Nigeria. I had built a professional career, worked for years, managed teams and sat in plenty of meetings. So when I came to Canada to study, I thought: School? I know school. 😄 Well… Canada had a few surprises waiting for me. Going back into the classroom wasn't difficult simply because of the coursework. I had to learn a different academic culture — from classroom participation and group work to presentations, deadlines, continuous assessment, academic integrity and simply learning how to be a student again while adjusting to an entirely new country. And doing all of this as a mature student with years of professional experience made the experience even more interesting. In this video, I'm sharing what genuinely surprised me about studying in Canada compared with my university experience in Nigeria — not to say that one system is better than the other, but because they were very different experiences for me. If you're planning to study in Canada, especially if you've been out of school for a while, this is one part of studying abroad that I think deserves more conversation. Being intelligent and understanding a particular academic system are not necessarily the same thing. Sometimes, you simply have to learn how to be a student again. 🎥 Studying in Canada vs Nigeria — The Culture Shock I Wasn’t Expecting!
