I Maxed Out My Lathe Turning a 20-Inch Black Walnut Bowl

This was one of the biggest bowls I’ve ever turned! I took a massive piece of Black Walnut and pushed my lathe to its limits to create this 20-inch (50 cm) bowl. Working with a piece of wood this large comes with its own challenges — from mounting and balancing the blank to removing a huge amount of material and keeping everything under control on the lathe. Woodturning can be dangerous, especially when working with large and heavy pieces of wood. Always wear appropriate eye and face protection, keep the lathe and tools properly adjusted, and make sure the workpiece is securely mounted before starting.
