Sirens in Independence are tested on the first Saturday of the month at or slightly after 12 o'clock noon. Sirens are tested in alert for about 45 seconds followed by an attack blast lasting less than sixty seconds. Independence has a system of various sirens originating from Cleveland's old Civil Defense system including Thunderbolts, Model 5AT's, a Model 5A, and a Model 2.
