We journeyed into Kaudulla National Park on a mission to find the majestic tusker Sumeda, the legendary elephant who famously survived a severe collision with a lorry, losing one of his tusks. To our amazement, we found him running with a massive herd—healthy, powerful, and currently in musth. But amidst the grandeur of the herd, we witnessed one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever captured in the wild. A young elephant mother was carrying the carcass of her dead calf, completely refusing to leave her son behind. It is a rare, devastating display of a mother's love and the deep emotional bonds that elephants share. In this video, you will witness two incredibly rare wildlife moments: the resilience of a legendary Sri Lankan tusker and the profound grief of a wild elephant mother.
