As the last Amtrak F59PHI, AMTK 458, left earlier tonight on Southwest Chief #4 to prepare itself for the transfer over to Metra, it seemed about time for a bit of a tiny tribute video of those guys now with all of them gone from the West Coast. Our main focus will be the ones that were here after the new year of 2019. Anyways, here are the Amtrak F59PHIs that remained long enough into the year of 2019. At the beginning of the year, there were 4 F59PHIs that were still in Southern California and they were AMTK 460, AMTK 451, AMTK 459 and AMTK 458. We found out pretty late that the AMTK 460 left on the Southwest Chief #4 back on 1/7/19, however, we still presented one bonus image of it on 11/19/18 at LAUPT. Next, we will showcase our last two clips and images we took of Amtrak F59PHI 451 on the low level consist on Pacific Surfliner trains 564 and 573 captured first in Dana Point/Capistrano Beach, then in the downtown San Juan Capistrano station. The 451 left Southern California for Metra on the Southwest Chief #4 on 2/6/19. (00:18) Furthermore, we will showcase Amtrak F59PHI 458 apparently three days in a row attached to a Pacific Surfliner Bi-Level set first off on Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains 573 and last minute use on 777 on 1/22/19. (5:17) Then on 1/31/19, we capture the Amtrak F59PHI 458 once again on the Pacific Surfliner Bi-Level set this time, pulling A774 through the rain captured at LAUPT as well as Cesar Chavez bridge. (12:36) Finally on 2/8/19, we capture the Amtrak F59PHI 458 one last time in person in the evening at LAUPT still attached to a bi-level consist on Pacific Surfliner 583 as well as an equipment move down to 8th Street yard. The AMTK 458 would become the very last F59PHI to leave Los Angeles and at last, it left on 3/1/19 on the Southwest Chief #4. (13:35) As for Amtrak F59PHI 459, we capture this one two more times before it left for Metra. We capture this one attached to a bi-level set for the last time on 2/11/19 on Pacific Surfliner train 580 at LAUPT. (16:22) Then on 2/20/19, we capture our very last Amtrak F59PHI, it being the 459, trailing 3rd unit on an outbound Southwest Chief A4 along with AMTK 157 and AMTK 76 as 1st and 2nd units. For this occasion, we also brought our Ho Scale model of AMTK 464, which left sometime ago, to take images with side by side with the 459 at LAUPT. (17:59) With AMTK 459 having left on 2/20/19 and AMTK 458 that left on 3/1/19, all of the F59PHIs, that were used for Pacific Surfliner trains, have left Southern California behind them and head east to Chicago, IL and/or possibly Beech Grove, Indiana for one last inspection. *However*, these engines will continue to be used under a different owner which would be the Metra, the commuter/regional service that serves near Chicago, IL. A vast majority of the F59PHIs, both the Pacific Surfliner/West and Cascades/Pacific Northwest, are already on Metra with some of them already patched up for use so these engines will still live on and as some say, there is a time of change and it seems another one of these changes has just occurred. As for the Pacific Surfliner trains, and also Cascades service, they are currently being handled either by a state owned Amtrak SC-44s,-Siemens Chargers-or leased Amtrak P40/P42 type locomotives. Luckily these engines have been captured over the years, including by us, so the F59PHIs on both the Pacific Surfliners and Cascades will be remembered for their 20 Years of service for the West Coast. And as pointed out by other users, the state of California still has Amtrak F59PHIs, although they are owned by the state and not part of same arrangement as the Cascades and Pacific Surfliner ones, running about on Amtrak San Joaquin and Capital Corridor intercity trains in Central/Northern California. It may be just a standard train locomotive to many and not a huge deal(kinda isn't really in a general perspective), however, there are younger railfans who have been raised to be interested with trains and have grown alongside with these locomotives so we should give some space for those who really have a fascination in these engines, even if they are just machines, and try to not damage their personal feelings. Our apologies for those who find that message silly and immature, however, generations of people can change as well. Anyways, we hope you all enjoy! Thanks for Watching JonRailVideos2019 Locations are: Capistrano Beach, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, and Los Angeles(LAUPT & Cesar Chavez Bridge)-Southern California.
