Watch each scene in English first, then the same scene again in Chinese. The Chinese scenes show English subtitles underneath, so you can follow along and match the meaning. After every scene, a Word Time card teaches key Chinese words — meaning, pronunciation and an example sentence. A fun way to practice Chinese listening with a story — for kids and beginners. (about 11 min) In a green hillside village in Ethiopia, little Abebe pushes away his new mom Almaz's warm bread and slams the door. The wise elder promises a medicine — if she brings him one whisker from a living lion. Night after night, Almaz sings softly and steps a little closer, until the lion trusts her. But the elder throws the whisker into the fire! Then, on a stormy night, Abebe runs off after his little goat, and the old lion shows Almaz where he is. She sings him the very same lullaby she sang to the lion — and at dawn, Abebe whispers "Mom…" for the very first time.
