A 41-year-old Japanese salaryman. I'm in Osaka for work. And today is bonus day. After work, I wanted shabu-shabu. I love hot pot. And if it's all-you-can-eat... Even better. So I went to On-Yasai in Dotonbori. ¥4,378. About $26. A little expensive for a normal dinner in Japan. But for unlimited meat, vegetables, and two different broths? Not bad at all. When it's meat, I can eat about five times more. Shabu-shabu with ponzu first. Then green onion. Garlic. Sesame. I like changing the flavor as I go. And then sukiyaki. Beef dipped in raw egg. Honestly, that was better than I expected. For all-you-can-eat meat, the quality was pretty good. Eventually, all that meat created another job. Skimming the broth. Again. And again. Then mochi. Kimchi. TKG. And kinako mochi ice cream to finish. I came here hungry. I definitely didn't leave hungry. But here's the thing. ¥4,378 looks expensive for one dinner. On business trips, I usually skip breakfast. Lunch might just be a cheap sandwich. I can eat like that for two or three days. So I'd rather skip forgettable meals... And spend the money on one meal I actually want. Tonight, that was unlimited shabu-shabu. And today? Bonus day. Not a bad way to spend it. Gochisosama.
