Using about 3,800 photographs taken from the International Space Station by Jessica Meir last May 26, we created this #timelapse. This is a flyover of the ISS from the western coasts of Africa to Mongolia. The structure visible in the foreground is the robotic arm of the International Space Station (Space Station Remote Manipulator System). Built by Canada, it was essential for positioning the modules during the construction of the ISS, and is still widely used today to "catch" spacecraft that cannot automatically dock with the orbital complex, or to assist astronauts during external maintenance operations (reducing the need for extravehicular activities). The video covers a 32 minutes time span and is therefore sped up about 10 times compared to the actual speed of the Station. ---------------- The AstronautiCAST YouTube channel is run by passionate volunteers on an unpaid basis.
