What does it actually mean to renew your mind? In Romans 12:2, Paul doesn't just challenge believers to avoid bad behavior - he points to something deeper: a total transformation of how you think, reason, and receive from God. This message from The Harvest digs into why your mind is the control tower of your faith, and why changing what you think - not just what you do - is the key to walking in God's will.
The sermon opens with Romans 12:1-2, where Paul calls believers to present themselves as a living sacrifice and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds. Paul's challenge runs deeper than surface-level morality. It's about replacing natural, carnal patterns of thinking with a mind shaped by the word of God. As a man thinks, so he is - and the mind is where faith either takes hold or gets strangled.
Throughout the message, multiple biblical figures are held up as examples of what a renewed mind looks like in practice. The woman with the issue of blood said within herself, "If I could just touch the hem of his garment." Hannah prayed so intensely she moved her lips without speaking a word. Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants every other spy saw and still said, "This is our land - let's take it." David ran toward Goliath not because he felt powerful, but because his mind was saturated with what he had already seen God do. And Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief - he was fully persuaded that what God promised, God was able to perform. Each one won the battle in the mind before they ever won it in the natural.
The message draws on 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 to describe the mind as a battlefield where strongholds are built through imagination, comparison, and conversations that pull you away from what God has already said. The answer isn't willpower - it's taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Faith, as the message puts it plainly, is holy persuasion. When you are fully persuaded that what God promised he is able to perform, you start giving him glory for things that haven't arrived yet.
