Papeete marina was a welcome treat, hot showers, shore power (which means we can use the toaster, electric kettle and have internet 24/7!) unlimited fresh water, and easy access to shops.
We had a long list of jobs to do.
Fitting some more powerful second hand solar panels as we had been struggling with power. New wiring and a new control unit has made a huge difference.
New filter housings for the water maker as we could not open the old ones to change the filters.
Check and tighten the rigging which meant taking the headsail off.
Engine hose changes, oil change and service.
Luckily we found some good shops for parts and completed most of our list. Some parts we decided were just too expensive to justify in Tahiti and some non-essential jobs are on the list for later!
It was strange to be in a big city after so long on sparsely populated islands, but we enjoyed the change. A laundrette ($25 for wash and 10 mins dry), Mcdonalds ($50) and the biggest supermarket we have seen since Panama, well stocked but expensive.
The market was amazing, lots of great food stalls, fresh fruit and veg along with local crafts during the week, and on Sunday morning an array of meats, bbq pork, honey roasted sausage etc all chopped and packaged for you.
We took advantage of the water supply to wash the boat including the sails, get the rust off our cutlery that has mainly been washed in salt water for months, and fill our tanks.
Signed out of French Polynesia and left heading for Tonga.
Thanks for watching
