New Energy Breakthrough From Canada Just Shocked the World
#Canada #Fusion #Technology
On the 8th of October 2026, inside a cylindrical machine in Richmond, British Columbia, a small amount of hydrogen plasma reached 1.1 kiloelectronvolts, roughly 12 million degrees Celsius. General Fusion, a company founded in Burnaby in 2002, achieved fusion temperature using pistons and liquid metal instead of superconducting magnets or billion-dollar lasers. The proof that the cheap path works changes the argument about whether fusion can ever be built at a price that makes sense.
In this video, we break down the LM26 machine General Fusion built and how it reached fusion temperature using mechanical compression, trace the history of why every previous fusion approach failed to solve the cost problem, explain who invested including Bezos and Chevron and why the demonstration plant is being built in England instead of Canada, evaluate what the 1.1 kiloelectronvolt result actually proves and what challenges remain, and show why this approach competes on cost per watt rather than temperature records.
Every previous fusion approach tried to make it happen and worried about cost later. General Fusion started with cost and worked backward to a machine that could hit the physics without exotic components.
