Nickel Plate Road #765 on the Fall Colors Steam Special, ft. Hyce & Chuck Young - October 17, 2026

Hey y'all, welcome back to the channel! Today, we're taking another look at the famous Nickel Plate Road Berkshire steam locomotive, number 765! This time, the engine's pulling the Fall Colors excursion, between Pleasant Lake Indiana, and Hillsdale Michigan, a 64-mile round trip. This train is part of the Indiana Rail Experience, a program of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. Nickel Plate Road 765, an S-2 Class 2-8-4 Berkshire type engine, was built in September of 1944, at the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima Ohio. The engine spent her revenue service life pulling fast freight trains out of Bellevue Ohio, and Fort Wayne Indiana. She was retired in 1958, when diesel locomotives caught up to the strength of steam engines. Of the 80 Berkshire engines built for the Nickel Plate Road, six survive in preservation, with 765 being completely operational.
