Wow, just when I thought it was busy before, this day happened! The Platte River Eagles were hopping with nest activity and action.
The eagles were busy with their nest building, but very alert and in defensive mode today. They are doing their best to hold down their territory and protect their nest in this beautiful setting.
I really edited this down for time, believe it or not! I placed several transitions when things were relatively quiet to keep the pace moving. 😉 Jump ahead using the timestamps below to check out all the best moments from today's cam highlights. ❤️🦅
⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:
• 0:00 - Early morning, cam op zooming in, both eagles in the nest tree.
• 0:31 - Eagle on the nest dives off the front, other Eagle flies off also.
• 0:48 - Eagle flies in from the left with nest material and the cam op moves in!
• 1:20 - Eagle incoming with nest material. Other Eagle still in the nest and it leaves!
• 1:53 - Eagle darts in from the right passing the nest with the other Eagle watching.
• 2:09 - Cam op zoomed out and we can see it looped around headed to the nest!
• 2:15 - Zooming back in, Eagle lands above the other (can see it vocalizing, not heard - windy day).
• 2:46 - Few minutes later, the Eagle above (the male I believe), dives off in direction of the river.
• 2:59 - Not long, he returns with a nice stick and receives a couple pecks of appreciation 😉
• 3:29 - After returning to his post above, he leaves yet again.

• 5:10 - Her turn to dive away.
• 5:24 - Cam op zooming out and an Eagle soaring in behind the trees and around to the nest.
• 5:33 - Eagle flying in with fluff, cam op zoomed in perfectly!
• 5:48 - Later, cam op zooming in, both Eagles at the nest tree, being observant.
• 5:58 - Eagle does a cool dive off that higher branch.
• 6:12 - Dark shadow of the Eagle returning through the trees, looks like more nest material and a nice greeting again 🤭
• 6:27 - Eagle jumps to a branch behind the nest, cam op zooms in.
• 6:38 - Few minutes later after leaving, Eagle returns for another friendly nest material delivery 😆
• 6:54 - Off it goes, from its position above it moved to minutes before.
• 7:10 - Minutes later, more material to the nest.
• 7:28 - Eagle (female I believe) dives off the front, he follows as the cam op pans out...
• 7:45 - Both Eagles in flight, soaring above the tree line, cam pans away.

A huge thank you to the volunteer camera operators at explore.org for this busy and exciting day at the Platte River! 🦅
🌿 ABOUT THIS CAMERA:
Watch the Sandhill Crane migration along the Platte River in Nebraska. This vital five-mile stretch of river at Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary serves as one of the most densely populated roosts in the world, hosting up to 200,000 cranes at the height of the season. For the most dramatic viewing, tune in during the early mornings to witness the legendary "liftoff"—where tens of thousands of cranes take flight in a cloud that blots out the sky—or join us in the evening as they return to the shallow sandbars to dance and socialize against the setting sun. While the peak migration is a seasonal masterpiece, this camera remains an evergreen window into the Great Plains ecosystem, offering a serene look at the resident wildlife and changing river landscape throughout the year, brought to you by explore.org.
