Four Gospel writers, on the most crowded night in the Bible, all stopped to record one small wound: a servant's ear, cut off by Peter's sword in Gethsemane. Why did that detail matter so much?
In this study, we slow down the arrest of Jesus and look at what most readers pass in a second, from the Greek text and Jewish history to an ancient law about priests and the one healing Jesus performed with His enemies' hands already on Him.
In this video:
What each Gospel adds about the sword, the servant, and the ear, and why only John names Peter and Malchus
Why "only an earlobe" and "Peter was aiming for his head" go beyond the text
The high priest whose ears were cut off seventy years earlier, and why Jerusalem never forgot it (Josephus)
The slave, the doorpost, and the awl in Exodus 21
What Jesus meant by "two swords… It is enough"
Why it mattered that it was the RIGHT ear (Exodus 29:20)
The last wound Jesus healed before the cross
