How Narad ji got influenced by EGO. How God helped Narad ji to overcome from the illusion.
The Four Types of Devotees (Bhaktas)
• Arta (The Distressed): Individuals who turn to God during times of extreme physical, mental, or environmental suffering, pain, or crisis, praying for relief. (Example: Gajendra the elephant or Draupadi).
• Artharthi (The Seeker of Wealth/Material Gains): Individuals who worship God to acquire worldly possessions, money, status, power, family, or material success.
• Jijnasu (The Inquisitive / Knowledge Seeker): Individuals who are curious about the divine truth, read scriptures, and desire to understand the nature of the self, the universe, and God.
• Jnani (The Man of Wisdom / Self-Realized Devotee): Individuals who possess true spiritual knowledge, recognize no separation between the Supreme Soul and the self, and love God selflessly without any desire for personal gain.
Narad's Pride and Penance
• Meditation in the Himalayas: Devarishi Narada was deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu. He sat in intense meditation in a Himalayan cave.
• Defeating Kamdev: Fearing that Narad might seek his heavenly seat, Indra sent Kamdev (the god of desire) to break his meditation. Kamdev failed completely.
• Rising Ego: Instead of remaining humble, Narad felt proud that he had conquered Kamdev. He went and boasted about it first to Lord Shiva, and then to Lord Vishnu.
The Illusion (Maya) of Vishwamohini
• Lord Vishnu's Plan: To cure his beloved devotee of ego, Lord Vishnu created a grand divine illusion (Maya).
• The City and Princess: Vishnu conjured a magnificent kingdom ruled by King Shheelnidhi. The king held a Swayamvar for his extraordinarily beautiful daughter, Vishwamohini.
• Narad's Infatuation: Narad wandered into the city, saw Vishwamohini, and immediately fell deeply in love with her, forgetting his asceticism.
The Monkey Face and Swayamvar
• Asking for a Handsome Form: Realizing he could not win her with his current appearance, Narad rushed to Lord Vishnu and asked for the "Hari Roop" (implying the handsome form of Hari/Vishnu).
• The Divine Play (Leela): 'Hari' also means a monkey. Vishnu granted him a face resembling a monkey while making him believe he looked exceedingly handsome.
• The Humiliation: Narad proudly sat in the Swayamvar assembly, unaware that Shiva's attendants (disguised as Brahmins) were laughing at him. When Vishwamohini walked in with the garland, she passed by Narad in horror at his face and garlanded Lord Vishnu instead, who had appeared as a king.
The Curse and Realization
• Discovery in the Water: Distraught and humiliated, Narad looked at his reflection in a pool of water and saw his monkey face.
• Cursing Vishnu: Blinded by anger, Narad cursed Lord Vishnu that since he caused him separation and humiliation over a woman, Vishnu would also have to take a human birth on Earth and suffer the agony of separation from his wife. He also cursed Vishnu to depend on the help of monkeys.
• The Reality Check: The illusion vanished. Filled with remorse for cursing his own Lord, Narad fell at Vishnu’s feet.
• Fulfillment of the Curse: Vishnu smiled and accepted the curse, stating that to honor Narad's words, he would incarnate as Shri Rama in Treta Yuga, lose Sita to Ravana, and take the help of a monkey (vanara) army.
