A new British electric sports car claims to weigh just 895 kg with its battery on board. It is the Longbow Speedster, built by a London start-up whose founders worked at Tesla and Lucid, and it challenges the one assumption the whole EV industry leans on: that an electric car has to be heavy. In this video we look at what Longbow has actually built, how a 52 kWh battery can claim 275 miles, why the first Tesla Roadster was really a light British Lotus from Norfolk, and what is still unproven. We also explain honestly what the title means: this car will not end electric cars, but it could end the excuse that weight is unavoidable. In this video: • The 895 kg claim and why it matters • How the first Tesla was built on Lotus Elise technology at Hethel • The EV weight spiral, and how Longbow tries to reverse it • The cabin with no touchscreen, two dials and an ignition key • Bonded aluminium chassis, module-to-chassis battery and 3D printed panels • The 900 hp in-wheel motor show car at CES 2026 • What is not proven: deliveries, factory, weight, range and price • What to watch next, including the Longbow Roadster due in 2027 Please note: weight, range and performance figures are Longbow's own claims for a car that had not been independently tested at the time of writing. As of October 2026 we could not find a confirmed report of customer deliveries or a named factory.
