Air Arcade BR 9.7 One of the most notable pilots to fly the Hawker Harrier was Wing Commander John Farley, often referred to as the "Father of the Harrier." Farley played a pivotal role in the development and testing of the Hawker Harrier, pushing the aircraft to its limits and demonstrating its groundbreaking V/STOL capabilities. His extensive experience and innovative approach to flying paved the way for the Hawker Harrier's success in combat. In 1979, 47 AV-8A airframes were converted to the AV-8C standard. The upgrade added a radar warning receiver (RWR), integrated countermeasure systems, avionics enhancements, and a service life extension. The AV-8C fleet and its predecessor AV-8A variants were retired in 1987 as the AV-8B Harrier II entered service.
