Welcome to the Lavender Ledger community. 🕯️📖✨ Track 20: "Chasing the Devil" “Chasing the Devil” tells the story of a man who has spent years running toward everything that could ruin him — whiskey, women, trouble, and long nights that never really filled the emptiness inside. Then he meets a woman who sees past the reputation, the scars, and the shame. She does not save him or force him to change. She simply sees the good man still buried underneath it all, and for the first time, he finds something worth leaving the fire for. 💬 Let's talk in the comments: Do you believe the right person can help you see something in yourself that you had forgotten was there? LYRICS [Verse 1] She was sipping wine beneath the amber light, Half-listening to voices drifting through the night. Then he walked in wearing dust and worn-out black, A little too rough for a room like that. He never saw her watching from across the room, But something in her shifted when he came into view. Her pulse spoke first, though she could hardly name it— Her body knew before her mind could explain it. [Pre-Chorus] She knew there was danger In the way he held her eyes, But something deep within her Said, don’t let this pass you by. [Chorus] He’d been chasing the devil, Running hard, running blind, Looking for redemption In every wrong place he could find. She saw through the whiskey, Through the scars and the shame, Saw a man still worth loving When he barely knew his name. He’d been chasing the devil, Till love stood in his way. [Verse 2] He loved his mama, still believed in God, Just hadn’t spoken much to either one in a while. He knew the taste of midnight, smoke and sin, Knew every door that trouble waited in. Women came easy, but nobody stayed, Morning always gathered what the darkness gave. He was tired of the noise, tired of the game, Tired of waking up and hating his own name. [Pre-Chorus] Then she sat beside him, Never asked him to confess. She looked beyond the ruin And saw the man beneath the mess. [Verse 3] She never tried to save him, Never told him what to do. She just stayed there long enough For him to see himself through her view. And slowly all the bottles Lost the comfort they once gave, All the nights he used to live for Started feeling like a grave. For the first time in years He wanted morning to stay, Wanted something worth holding, Not another night thrown away. [Bridge] He thought redemption would come like thunder, Heaven breaking open through the rain. But grace came softly, Sat down beside him, And called him by his name. She didn’t pull him from the fire, She gave him something worth leaving it for. And when the old life came calling, He stopped walking through that door. [Final Chorus] He’d been chasing the devil, Till he finally turned around. She was standing there beside him When his feet found solid ground. The devil knew his weakness, Knew the darkness and the shame, But she knew the heart inside him Long before he chose to change. He’d been chasing the devil, Till love stood in his way. [Outro] Now Mama sees the light in him again, And he talks to God at night. The devil may still call his name, But he no longer needs that life. He spent years running toward the flame, Till her love showed him another way. The devil knew his name— But she knew his heart would stay.
