Bernard’s Watch S04E07 Time Slip

A 1990’s/2000’s series on Children’s ITV about Bernard, a boy gifted a watch by a postman that has magical abilities. This was taken from a DVD that contains the whole series, not the master copies of the first 3 seasons, series 4 doesn’t seem to be around and yes there only seem to be Tv recordings if video but it preserves this great Carlton series in a time where tv was made in different regions and kids shows were made by 3 of the terrestrial networks. The first time Bernard notices something wrong with his watch is when it restarts time by itself while getting food for school. After that it appears to be working well. However, when Lucy borrows the watch that morning the watch stops time by itself and would not restart when she presses the button. Lucy sees Bernard when it restarts and gives the watch back but is told to wait until break time before she can see him again. The watch stops and restarts for Bernard as well. At break time, Lucy tells Bernard he should find out and he decides to call the Postman. Bernard describes the problem which the Postman describes as time sticking which usually only happens if someone drops the watch into an adhesive substance or if it needs servicing which for Bernard was not due for another two months. He pours light into the back of the watch which he says should solve the problem. However, that night Bernard's mother sends him to bed although he thought he only just got back from school. He calls the Postman and described the new problem which he described as time slipping as the hours Bernard lost have gone by but he does not remember them. He cannot give back the lost hours because that is against the rules. The postman notices that the watch is overdue for servicing as Bernard lets others use it and the time for the others' usage is on separate sheets of paper, which he previously failed to notice, and immediately books a service. When Bernard wakes up, he finds he has now lost four whole days and one of them was his birthday. According to his family, he enjoyed himself although he does not remember it even though he went to the American theme park he always wanted to visit. The Postman arrives to take the watch for servicing and issues a temporary replacement (a mantlepiece clock with a pendulum instead of a button). Bernard describes the lost four days and the Postman tells him he can make a complaint when he sympathises with his lost birthday. The temporary clock is not portable and chimes on the hour even when Bernard is trying to sleep. After waking up the following morning, he finds it is his birthday, the watch is back on his bedside after servicing and the Postman had given him a camera to make sure he remembers it.
