SURAH AL-BAQARAH (2:127–134)
The Cow — Verses 127–134
✨ VERSE-BY-VERSE SUMMARY
Based on Tafsir Ibn Kathir
1. Verse 127 — Ask Allah to accept your deeds
Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail raised the foundations of the Ka‘bah and prayed for Allah to accept their work. Even while performing a great act of worship, they remained humble and sought Allah’s acceptance.
2. Verse 128 — Pray for steadfastness
The two prophets asked Allah to make them obedient to Him, to raise a submissive community from their descendants, to teach them their acts of worship, and to accept their repentance. This teaches us to keep asking Allah for guidance and forgiveness.
3. Verse 129 — The prayer for a messenger
Prophet Ibrahim prayed for a messenger from among his descendants who would recite Allah’s revelations, teach the Scripture and wisdom, and purify the people. According to Ibn Kathir, this prayer was fulfilled through Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
4. Verse 130 — Follow the way of Ibrahim
Whoever turns away from the way of Prophet Ibrahim rejects a path of sincere devotion to Allah. Allah chose Ibrahim in this world, and he was among the righteous in the Hereafter.
5. Verse 131 — Submit wholeheartedly to Allah
When Allah commanded Ibrahim to submit, he responded that he had submitted to the Lord of all worlds. True faith means responding to Allah with sincere obedience.
6. Verse 132 — Pass faith on to the next generation
Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ya‘qub (Jacob) urged their children to remain faithful to Allah until death. Their greatest concern was not worldly success, but that their descendants remain devoted to their Lord.
7. Verse 133 — Worship Allah alone
As death approached Ya‘qub, he asked his sons whom they would worship after him. They affirmed that they would worship the One God of their forefathers. The verse highlights the importance of preserving faith and worshipping Allah alone.
8. Verse 134 — Everyone is accountable for their own deeds
The earlier generations have passed away, and they will be accountable for what they earned, just as we will be accountable for our own deeds. Being related to righteous people does not replace personal faith and obedience.
🌙 TODAY’S REMINDER
Do good deeds with humility and ask Allah to accept them. Follow the example of Prophet Ibrahim by submitting wholeheartedly to Allah, praying for your family’s guidance, and teaching the next generation to remain steadfast in faith. Our success depends not on our ancestry, but on our own faith and deeds.
