Every atom in your body is built from just 2 of the 6 known kinds of quark: up and down. Yet colliders have found 4 more that build nothing lasting. The heaviest, the top quark, weighs as much as a gold atom and falls apart in under a trillionth of a trillionth of a second. The extra quarks are heavier copies of the first pair, and nature repeats that pair exactly three times. The reason for three runs through a tiny crack between matter and antimatter, which may be part of why matter survived the Big Bang at all. This calm, long-form documentary follows the clues one by one: why a proton's weight barely comes from its quarks, the muon that nobody ordered, slow-dying strange particles, the missing kaon decay that predicted charm, and the broken mirror between matter and antimatter. It follows how two physicists in Kyoto predicted six quarks when only three were known, and how the bottom and top quarks were found. It ends with how the Z boson and the Higgs boson count exactly three families, why each family must be complete, why the known matter–antimatter difference falls far short of explaining our universe, and how heavy quarks still flicker inside ordinary protons.
