My name is Wade Corbin. My house is the last one on the line. The power goes out about ten times a winter out here, the nearest hardware store is forty minutes, and nobody is coming to sort it out for me. There is a generator parked outside your house right now. It has a fuel tank, it has an engine, it makes electricity every time it runs, and you have never once thought of it as a generator. It is your car. The only thing between that and a working refrigerator is one box that costs about forty dollars. In this video I am going to walk you through how it works, what it will run and what it will not, and why the box goes on the battery and not the lighter socket. A fridge or a freezer in stretches. Phones, a radio, a lamp, a router. A CPAP machine, which for some people is the entire reason to own one. Not a kettle, not a space heater, not anything that makes heat. And then I am going to tell you the part that the two biggest videos on this never mention. Any gasoline-powered engine has to be at least twenty feet from any window, door or vent. Not "outside." Twenty feet. On most houses in this country the car sits nowhere near that far from the kitchen window, and carbon monoxide kills about 430 Americans a year. People who are asleep can die before they ever have a symptom, and a power cut is a night-time problem. So this is the whole thing, the trick and the twenty feet together. How to pace twenty feet out in your own yard in daylight, before you need it. Why it never runs overnight while the house is asleep. Why a carbon monoxide alarm is not the same as a smoke alarm, and where it goes. And why everything in this video plugs into the box, and nothing goes near your wall sockets or your breaker panel. Go outside this weekend and pace out twenty feet from your nearest window. Put a stone where it lands. Then tell me in the comments how many times your power went out last winter — just the number. I read every one of them. Subscribe so you do not miss the next one. Stay warm. Stay dry. And remember, the people who had to work these things out for themselves usually got closer to the truth than the people selling you the answer. #PowerOutage #CarGenerator #PowerInverter #CarbonMonoxide #WinterPrep #RuralLiving #SelfReliance #Homestead #EmergencyPrep #NoElectricity #CheapFixes #ThingsThatWork
