🎄 Traditional German Christmas Stollen Recipe | Homemade Holiday Fruit Bread
Discover the rich flavors of traditional German Christmas Stollen - a festive holiday bread filled with rum-soaked dried fruits, crunchy nuts, fragrant citrus zest, and buttery goodness.
This recipe is inspired by a Christmas Stollen recipe I brought home from Munich, Germany, in 2012. The secret is patience: soaking the dried fruits in dark rum for 1-2 weeks creates a wonderfully rich flavor.
Perfect for Christmas celebrations, homemade holiday gifts, or enjoying with a warm cup of coffee!
🥣 INGREDIENTS
Dried Fruits & Rum
150 g raisins
75 g candied orange peel
75 g candied lemon peel
100 g dried apricots
100 g dried cherries
300 ml dark rum
Nuts
100 g almonds
100 g hazelnuts
100 g cashews
Stollen Dough
500 g all-purpose flour
200 ml warm milk (no hotter than 37°C / 99°F)
100 g sugar
10 g active dry yeast (or 25 g fresh yeast)
½ tsp salt
2 eggs
150 g softened butter
Zest of 1 orange
Zest of 1 lemon
2 tsp vanilla extract

Soak the dried fruits in dark rum for at least 7 days, ideally 14 days, in a covered container in the refrigerator. Stir every 3-4 days. Drain excess liquid before adding the fruit to the dough.
