In this video, I introduce one of the fundamental practices of Kalari Yoga: the Marjara Breath & Arm Sequence. It is based on a practice we learned in Kerala as part of the traditional Kalari salutation. Marjara means “cat” and is one of the classical animal postures, or Vadivukal, found in Kalaripayattu. These postures do more than imitate the shape of an animal. They embody particular qualities of movement – awareness, readiness, stability, and the ability to move quickly and naturally from a grounded position. Marjara is a deeply grounded, close-to-the-earth posture. In this sequence, we combine it with a rhythmic flow of arm movements and conscious breathing. This video guides you through the sequence step by step, allowing you to observe the movements in detail and practise along at your own pace.
