Since we moved to Loja five years ago, we’ve had so many fun and interesting conversations with Ecuadorian friends about different realities in the States. Some are amusing (try to explain shopping in bulk to someone who pops over to the local market for the day’s ingredients!), and other things are sobering. For most, there’s not a right or wrong—just different. Just like we knew so little about Ecuador before we moved here, so many things about the US remain foreign to people living in a totally different context.
