THE MAN WHO CUT THE ROPE

Welcome to the channel The Old West Theatre. The frontier, 1880s. A gunslinger named Mike walks out of a Mexican revolution with nothing left but his reputation — no horse, no gun, not even a hat — and stumbles onto a band of vigilante thugs stringing up a rancher and riding off to let him strangle slowly. He cuts the man down. The rancher, Joe Neal, owns one of the biggest spreads in the valley, and he explains the situation between gasps: a cold-blooded operator named Russ Nevers is using so-called vigilantes to seize every large ranch in the territory by killing its owner, taking advantage of land claims that were never properly filed and a town with no sheriff, no council, and no one willing to stand up. Mike isn't inclined to take on another man's fight — until he learns that Nevers' top gun is Rink Witter, the former partner who double-crossed him and left him behind. That settles it. Neal signs over the running of his ranch to Mike and goes into hiding, sending him to the town of Red Creek to find an old friend who can help. By the time Mike arrives, the old friend has already been murdered, his daughter Angie left alone to hold the family's land.
