British Tourists Had NO IDEA What an American Rodeo Was Like

Everybody in this video turned up expecting a sport. An arena, a competition, maybe two hours. What they found was a festival with a sport inside it. A funfair. Live music. A concert afterwards. Livestock competitions where children lead cattle they've raised themselves around a ring while their families watch. A food hall selling things nobody warned them about. And in the middle of all that, men getting on bulls for eight seconds at a time — which turns out to be about four minutes of the entire day. Then there's the event nobody sees coming. Two Brits are watching an arena when small children are strapped onto sheep and told to hold on. One of them starts shouting. He genuinely believes somebody is about to be hurt, because nobody told him this was a thing. It's called mutton busting. The children wear helmets and vests, whoever holds on longest wins, and it has been happening at American fairs for about eighty years. Everybody around him is laughing — and not at the child. Elsewhere a British woman explains that the best thing about living in Texas is being able to wear cowboy boots every day without anybody looking twice, because at home the same pair would be a costume. Another Brit tries line dancing and cannot work out how everybody already knows the steps. A man from Toronto flies to Utah because a friend invited him, and ends up at a rodeo he'd never once thought about. Nobody explains a rodeo to you. You buy a ticket and find out.
