In the mid-1990s Master P sat across from Jimmy Iovine with about $500 in his pocket. The offer was $1,000,000. He read the contract — seven years, and a clause about his own name — and walked away. What he signed instead was a pressing and distribution deal with Priority Records: 85 percent to No Limit, 15 to the distributor. A few months later it became 80/20, and his former manager explains exactly why. Told through Master P's own interviews, his former manager, and a former Priority Records sales executive — including the part the motivational version leaves out: why that deal worked for him, and why it almost never works for anyone else. No takes. No reactions. Documents.
